Message from Director of Professional Nursing Practice and Education
Welcome to the Center for Nursing Education! The Center for Nursing Education is a new department which was previously a part of Organizational Effectiveness and now a part of Patient Care Services. The Center for Nursing Education believes that nurses are life long learners who seek opportunities to learn and advance their profession at every stage of their careers.
The Center for Nursing Education and unit/clinic based educators provide education and training for professional development throughout the department of Patient Care Services. Many of our nurses also participate in community educational activities.
The Center for Nursing Education uses evidenced based nursing, Benner's Model of Novice to Expert, nursing shared governance, and patient/family centered care as the organizing framework for programs. The Center for Nursing Education supports nurses through a patient care services orientation immediately following StartWidse and a unit/clinic orientation planned by the unit/clinic educator. New nurse graduates enter a dedicated Nurse Residency Program offered to support the transition of the new graduate throughout the entire first year. Preceptor education and updates and clinical practice development are ongoing programs offered by the center. In addition to our programs, MCG Health offers tuition re-imbursement to employees who wish to further their nursing education.
I look forward to our journey together and meeting the challenges ahead.
