Sigma Theta Tau International  (STTI) is the premier international honor society for nurses. Since its inception in 1922, STTI has inducted over 400,000 nurses and maintains an annual membership of over 100,000 members. Members of Sigma Theta Tau International are student nurses or registered professional nurses who have demonstrated a personal commitment to nursing excellence. Membership is more than an academic destination, it is a dynamic partnership to be integrated and renewed throughout your career.

How can I become a member?

By accepting an invitation to membership from a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. The

Chapter at the Medical College of Georgia is the Beta Omicron Chapter.


What is the Membership Criteria?

1.  Undergraduate students must have completed 1/2 of the nursing curriculum and

  • have at least a GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale)

  • rank in the upper 35 percentile of graduating class

  • meet the expectations of academic integrity.

2.  RN to BSN students must:

  • have completed 12 credit hours at current school

  • have completed 1/2 of the nursing curriculum

  • have at least a GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale)

  • rank in the upper 35 percentile of graduating class

  • meet the expectations of academic integrity.

3.  Graduate students (Master's and Doctorate) must:

  • have completed 1/4 of the nursing curriculum

  • have at least a GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4.0 scale).

  • meet the expectation of academic integrity

  • meet the expectations of academic integrity.

4.  Nursing Professionals/Community Leaders must:

  • be a registered nurse, legally recognized to practice in his/her country

  • hold at least a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other field

  • be in good standing

  • have demonstrated marked achievement in nursing in at least one of the following areas: clinical practice, education, research, administration, or publication.

What is the cost of membership?

Membership fees to join STTI vary by region and are based on the income level of the region. Chapter Fees are set by each individual chapter. Full time students get a 50% reduction in the international and local chapter fees. The basic induction fee for the local Beta Omicron chapter is $100.00.
