Instructional Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC)

College of Dental Medicine

The Instructional Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) for the College of Dental Medicine will provide direction on the best strategies for providing information technology resources to support instructional activities at the university. The ITAC will serve as a conduit for the two-way dissemination of information related to instructional computing at each school of the university and will serve to otherwise enhance communications among the faculty and academic leaders of the schools. The ITAC will keep abreast of technological, philosophical, and operational advances that impact instructional computing and provide advice on how the university should prepare to support instructional computing in the future.

The advisory committee’s goal is to represent the respective College’s needs when making their recommendations not just the individual goals of their department or center.

Success Measures:

  • Document and publish an instructional technology strategic plan for FY 2012, 2013, 2014
  • The development of annual Strategic Initiatives
  • Establishing the initial measure of how many courses within each degree program are using technology and then setting a goal of how much this should increase each year.
  • Delivery of an effective assessment instrument
  • Establishment of a faculty development program that supports faculty in better recognizing opportunities to use instructional technology.
  • Documentation of the operational procedures for the support of curriculum design and classroom technology support.

Team Members:

  • Roman Cibirka, Vice President for Instruction/Associate Provost

Duties of the Team:

  • Assist in developing appropriate communication to faculty regarding the use of technology for instructional content delivery.
  • Identify instructional problems that technology can solve or instructional enhancements for which technology can be employed.  Recommend solutions and prioritize.
  • Identify technology challenges for faculty to be successful in using technology for delivering instructional content.
  • Assist in developing a periodic instructional technology assessment program to evaluate effectiveness incorporating student input where possible.
  • Annually assess the use of available technology using the inventory of degree programs and required courses.
  • Assist in developing an appropriate faculty development program, with recommendations of potential incentives, as it relates to using technology for instruction.
  • Participate in annual strategic planning activities for instructional technology support.

Boundaries:

  • The Committee will remain focused on the use of technology within instruction.  While the group might gain a broader understanding about how the same technology might be applied in research or administrative areas, any projects that are related to those implementations will be managed separately.
  • The Committee will focus on the educational benefits of using technology rather than allowing technology to be the driver.
  • The Committee will not use this meeting to resolve day-to-day issues, but use the normal IT Service reporting process.

Operating Guidelines:

  • The Committee will establish a monthly meeting schedule.
  • Meetings will not last longer than 1 hour unless specially planned.
  • Agenda will be published in advance and action minutes will be published within 1 week afterward.
  • At least annually, the Committee (or representatives) will join similar committee groups from other Colleges to review common issues and plans.

Ground Rules:

  • If members can not attend on a regular basis (misses two meetings in succession), a replacement will be requested.
