Surgery Practice Site

Departmental Purpose:
The Surgery Practice Site (SPS) is the outpatient practice site for faculty physicians and surgery residents under the Section of General Surgery, Department of Surgery. Patients can be referred from a primary physician for consultative services or directly schedule an appointment. The purpose of the SPS is to provide quality care and follow-up services using an interdisciplinary approach. The SPS is committed to providing a patient/family centered and value oriented environment where change, innovation and the quest for knowledge are ongoing.

Description of Services Provided:
Services in SPS are designed to meet the needs of the patients and their families and are provided within a patient/family centered care philosophy.

Primary services include:
  • provision of patient care through the use of the nursing process to include assessment, establishment of nursing diagnoses, care planning, evaluation and reassessment based on standards of care.
  • interdisciplinary care planning.
  • medication administration to include oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous routes.
  • patient and family education on surgical repair/treatment of general surgical disorders.
  • evaluation and treatment of Vascular, Transplant and Thoracic Oncology Disorders.
  • follow-up treatment of patients seen in our regional trauma center.
  • minor surgical procedures (removal of skin lesion, lesion biopsy, chest tube placement, toenail removal, wound debridement) preparation and treatment.
Types and Ages of Patients Served:
The SPS provides services to adult patient populations. Patients who require assessment and treatment for surgical disorders and/or evaluation for specific diagnostic testing and/or therapeutic interventions.
    Location: 4th Floor of the Ambulatory Care Center
    Hours of Operation: 8 am-4:30 pm Monday through Friday
