Collection Guidelines

Add 25 mL of 50% acetic acid as preservative at start of collection.  Use 15 mL of 50% acetic acid for ages <5.  This is intended to achieve a pH of 2-4.  Use amber vial to protect aliquot from light

Interpretation

Elevated values are found in several inherited and acquired conditions that are characterized by various degrees of delta-aminolevulinic aciduria.
