Specimens other than ACD whole blood, collection beyond 48 hours of draw, gross hemolysis, warm/cold blood

Collection Guidelines

Specimen must arrive within 48 hours of draw to be stabilized.  Draw specimen Monday-Thursday ONLY and not the day before a recognized holiday (ie July 4, Christmas, New Year's, etc)

Limitations and Contraindications

This test is not reliable in identifying carriers due both to analytical variation and unusual genetic variants.

Interpretation

Carriers or persons with a pseudogene may yield low results but are unaffected with MLD
