Collection Guidelines

Specimen from the 16-18 week gestational period of pregnancy is preferred, with 14-21 week gestational period being acceptable

Limitations and Contraindications

 

Interpretation

The presence of AChE in amniotic fluid is positive for neural tube defect if fetal contamination, such as bloody tap, can be ruled out.
