Information Concerning The PeriOperative Service

The specialty of Perianesthesia Nursing encompasses the care of the patient and their family in the preanesthesia, surgical or procedure and postanesthesia periods. In the preanesthesia period the nurse interviews the patient by asking questions and assessing the patient’s health history and home medications in order to prevent and identify potential or actual problems. Education is provided in the preanesthesia period to the patient and their family members in order to promote positive outcomes during the surgical experience. *1

After the surgery, the patient receives individualized care and monitoring until stabilized and ready to go to the home care environment. The patient and family then receive additional teaching and instruction from the postanesthesia nurse in order to provide complete and adequate care of the patient in their home after discharge from the hospital.1

Many of our Registered Nurses (RN) have extended their education and are certified in Perianesthesia Nursing and Peri Operative Nursing becoming highly recognized for their defined education and knowledge.  In the field of Perianesthesia Nursing and Peri Operative Nursing we have Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurses (CAPA), Certified OR Nurses (CNOR), and Certified Post Anesthesia Nurses (CPAN) specializing in order to provide the best optimal care and surgical outcome for each and every patient.
