Mobile Training Team

The Health System Security Team offers a variety of training packages tailored to fit the needs of individual units/departments. We have pre packaged programs designed to fit in your schedule. The modules range from 20 minutes to 8 hours and can stand alone or be presented as a blend. You schedule the time and place (we would like as much advanced notice as possible but at least two weeks is preferred). Module A Verbal JUDO 30 minutes
Description: This block of instruction is designed to provide techniques and skills to staff members on how to deescalate potentially volatile situations.​ ​ ​

Module B Dealing with Unruly Patients 30 minutes
Description: This instruction is designed to assist staff on safe procedures (both for themselves and the patient) in determining and using minimum force necessary required to accomplish the given task and documenting the incident. ​ ​
What's needed: Class or conference room large enough to accommodate attendees.

​Instruction includes techniques demonstration and staff participation
Module C CPI Nonviolent physical intervention 8 hours
Description: This course of instruction can be scheduled for one full day or spread out over a few days or weeks to meet your requirements. The instruction focuses on verbal intervention and de-escalation, personal protection, and physical restraint of persons out of control. ​ ​
What's needed: Class or conference room large enough to accommodate attendees.

This course provides CPI certification to all attendees good for one year.
Module D CPI refresher 3 hours
Description: This course can be scheduled for one half day or two blocks of instruction. All participants must have current CPI certification. Instruction will focus on verbal skills and refresh participants on person protection and thephysical restraint of persons out of control.

This course provides CPI certification to all attendees good for one year.
Module E Fire/Smoke & Smells 30 minutes
Description: Instruction will focus on fire and safety measures necessary in patient areas as well as business units. What to do, who to call etc. ​ ​
What's needed: Class or conference room large enough to accommodate attendees after initial instructions a walking tour of the department will take place.
​Ideal Class size: 15
Instruction includes touring the department and identifying risk. A non-attribution fire/safety inspection is provided.
Module F Fire Detectors and Toxic Sensors 30 minutes
Description: Fire safety technicians and/or fire detection system operators will discuss the mechanics of various sensors. What causes systems activations, how to avoid accidental triggers and actions in the event of an accidental trigger. ​
What's needed: Class or conference room large enough to accommodate attendees after initial instructions a walking tour of the department will take place.

​Instruction includes touring the department and identifying risk. A summary of accidental triggers in your area will be provided.
Module G Patient Evacuations 1 hour
Description: Representatives will discuss challenges and options for your unit to transport patients during medical emergencies or routine scheduled procedures outside your unit.​ ​
What's needed: Class or conference room large enough to accommodate attendees and an available patient bed (preferably the largest bed type found on your unit).

​Instruction includes demonstration some practical exercise work.
Module H Using the Med-Sled for Evacuation 2 hours
Description: This instruction is designed as a demonstration and particle exercise using the Med-Sled as an evacuation device for both standard a bariatric patients. ​ ​
What's needed: Class or conference room large enough to accommodate attendees and "patient" bed/table. A stairwell should be close by for hands on practice.

Module I Arrestees or County Detainees 20 minutes
Description: We will discuss the difference between arrestees and detainees and what impact that has on hospital procedures and requirements. We will also discuss variations noted from several counties and what their policies are in regards to an individual's custody. ​ ​

Module J No Info Policy and Procedures 30 minutes
Description: Security personnel will outline the purpose of the no info policy. We will discuss the mechanics of the program and the responsibilities of security, staff, patients, and family members authorized to visit. ​ ​

Module K Inmate On The Unit 30 minutes
Description: This class is designed to inform the staff of law enforcement and security duties as well as the requirements for staff when preparing the patient for transport outside of your unit. This instruction will inform staff of what to watch for and how to report improper handling of inmates.​ ​

Module L Inmate Evacuations 1 hour
Description: What happens when you have an inmate on the floor and we are forced to evacuate? Who maintains custody and how far. If we have an emergency, are we really required to wait for hospital security officers to evacuate? These questions and more will be answered in this short class. ​ ​

Module M The Parameters of Security 30 minutes
Description: Security supervisors will discuss the capabilities and services provided by security as well as the limitations of security officers. Topics will include legal limitations regarding patients who wish to leave AMA.. ​ ​

Module N The Smoking Policy Enforcers 30 minutes
Description: Instruction provided on where patients and visitors are permitted to smoke. Who is responsible to enforce the smoking policy and how to approach violators will also be discussed. ​ ​

Module O After Hours Access 30 minutes
Description: Security officers will discuss the process and requirements for locking and unlocking specified doors. Special emphasis is placed on community areas such as the kitchen and formula room for after hours meals. Additional emphasis is placed on reducing the requirements to open offices when employees have been issued keys. ​

Module P Unit Risk Assessment 1 hour
Description: This block of instruction is designed to assist staff and management in determining and mitigating risk associated with the physical design of the unit. ​ ​

​Instruction includes touring the department and identifying risk. An Action plan will be provide to the unit with in 10 days of completion.
Module Q Physical Security Inspection 1 hour
Description: This class is designed to help staff proactively reduce occurrences of theft and reduce the risk of personal injury. Topics of discussion will include storage of personal valuables and placement of furniture for protection verse hindrance.

Module R Securing Your Home 30 minutes
Description: Security personnel will apply statistics and lessons learned from household burglaries. We will discuss physical security measures, anti burglar landscape ideas, and make suggestions for systems to summon police if needed.​ ​

Module S Summertime Safety 30 minutes
Description: Summer is almost here!! What risky adventures will you and your family take part in this year? This class will provide pointers for safe activities and make suggestions to protect yourself in typical summer activities such as boating, camping, swimming, and eating that picnic food that sat out in the sun all day. ​ ​

Module T Emergency Notification Systems 30 minutes
Description: Emergency Management Personnel will discuss the various methods of notifying campus and hospital employees of certain situations such as weather events or other emergency situations. Topics will include the use of the Georgia Health Sciences University alert system and the Live Process program used for regional notifications​

Module U Active Shooter Policy 30 minutes
Description: A growing concern in workplace violence is an assault with fire arms. More and more we hear of situations where a business or school is attacked by persons with fire arms. Presenters will discuss best practices, policies, and procedures to follow in the event the hospital is attacked. ​ ​
